Bike MS Make Up Ride

So we didn't make it to Logan for Bike MS but never fear all that training that Thomas did and the rides I went on were not all in vain! We held a make up ride for a few of us that weren't able to make it. We did a 30 mile ride, 15 miles out to Rocky Mtn Recycling and then 15 miles back to Harmon's in Midvale. We had a group of 9 of us along with 3 volunteers for on the way and a rest stop. It was a fun ride for all of us, we all enjoyed it for the most part. I dislike hills personally so that part was not fun. Here is a group shot of us at our rest stop, all thanks to RMR for the snacks!

We were so happy that we could do the ride while supporting the cause that has had us doing many fundraisers since the beginning of this year. Bob's Army (AZ Bike MS unit, UT Walk MS and UT Bike MS units) were able to raise over $12,400! It's truly amazing to know that we have and will help fight the war against MS with every penny we raise.

Until next year...thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered, ridden, you are all awesome!

Reminiscing about the past while looking forward to the future

Last night my sister and I went to one of my dearest friends' wedding. Karina and I have been friends since 4th grade so we have made many memories over the years. We have all gone our seperate ways but it always amazes me how no matter far away or long its been since you saw each other it seems as you saw each other yesterday and can continue on being friends forever.

A few of our good old friends were there and we were talk
ing about all the fun and crazy stuff we did as teenagers. I cant' imagine having no responsibilities and being able to go on an adventure everyday like we did. Moab, camping, Payson Lakes, Provo River,Vegas, California, etc.

I was also able to reconnect with my friend Tera. I must admit I had my doubts that we would have much in common anymore but to my surprise I realized how much I had missed her and how common our lives are with our kids and general interests.

Anywho...here's a picture of the girls at the wedding.

Soon another friend of ours is getting married but I feel this time it won't be reliving my past but about their future and our friendship getting stronger. Our friends from Portland will be coming back to Utah soon and I must say I'm so excited for this wedding because La Nae will become part of our family. Jorge and Thomas have been friends for many years and Jorge is considered family. Thomas will be one of his groomsmen, which I think he finds as an honor. It will be a celebration of love and friendship. I can't wait to get out on the dance floor! Maybe we will see some booty quakin' by Thomas!

World Cup Update

It has been a crazy start to the World Cup. First off, the host country South Africa was able to draw against Mexico, then the US draws with the wanks (England). Now the biggest news of them all, Spain LOSES to Switzerland! They were ranked #1 in the world by FIFA. Just insane.

Now to the events of the US vs England game! We are very dedicated fans so what else would we do the evening prior to the big game? PUB CRAWL! That is right, we did a pub crawl all over downtown SLC in the rain. It was fantastic! The following day was the US vs England match, we went to the Republican. It was an awesome atmosphere and so much fun to celebrate with everyone. The final score was 1-1. A draw against England is almost as good as a win in my book!
The following day we finished our weekend with Brunch at the Bohemian and watched the poor Aussies get pummeled by Germany 4-0.

During the week Thomas and I have been watching 0r getting updates on all the matches. I must admit some of the games have been a snooze fest because of the lack of goals. I hope it picks up! Next US match is Friday against Slovenia. Friday can't come soon enough, USA! USA! USA!

Its World Cup Week!

Yes, this post is dedicated to the World Cup!

At the Welker residence we are gearing up for the biggest sporting event in the world, the 2010 World Cup! The US Mens National team qualified and are participating so this gives us more reason to get excited.

Some of you may know that we are huge soccer (aka futbol) fans and Thomas is the president of the American Outla
ws: Salt City Chapter and with that he has watch party planning responsibilities. Our first event will be at the Republican to watch the Yanks vs England, Saturday, June 12th at noon! We are very excited for this game because if we can beat England it will show the world that the United States are a major contender for the cup. I believe we will get out of our group however I know there are some good teams out there. I wish our boys the best of luck!

ESPN has created murals for the participating
countries. I really love the one they made for the U.S.

Stay tuned as for the next month or so I will be trying to keep up on posting updates of our watch parties and other various events going on. (ie Bike MS)

P.S. Thomas and I are still training for Bike MS but I must say Thomas is killin' me on actually following through on training.

Walk MS- Don't tread on Bob!

Every year Bob loves to remind us of how determined and strong he is when the MS Walk comes around. He walks all 3 grueling miles with only a few stops along the way.

This year we had about 40 walkers to help support Bob and the MS foundation.

Here are some other moments from the walk. As you can see its quite the family affair!

I am so proud of Bob and also Bob's Army for what we have accomplished and what we have yet to do. This was our third year walking with many more to come. I can't wait for Bike MS in June, its going to be one hell of a ride!

What we've been up to in the last month or so...

I just realized that I haven't updated in about a month. I'm a terrible blogger! Here's a quick update on what we've been up to!
We upgraded the family car!

It was MS Awareness week and we held a Casino Night Charity Event to help raise funds for our Bike MS. We raised $2400! Thomas and I are still training for Bike MS in June.

Tori and Jordan continue the silliness! Tori was playing with Daddy's new cycling team hat and Jordan was
playing with great grandma's new puppy Ringo.

Walk MS is coming up in a few weeks! We can't wait to all walk as a team and family to support our brother Bob. This pic is from our last years team. This year I think our team size will double!

Last but not least...the RSL soccer season has started!! Thomas and I went to San Jose and had a great time. RSL won 3-0! Now its the home opener week and we are all anxious for Saturday to get here! Check out the sweet season tickets for this year featuring our 2009 MLS Champs Real Salt Lake!

One more quick note, Thomas has been racing for team Revolution/Cafe Rio and he is currently sitting in first place in his flight! Congratulations babe!

Update: our quest for Bike MS is going much further than we ever thought!

Thomas and I decided a while back that we were going to start a Bike MS team but never did we think it would get to the point it is now. Our friends, coworkers, and even complete strangers have been very generous to help us organize many great fundraiser events. We started out doing a little blackjack tournament for our friends to help raise some money. Bob's Army raised $600 that night! This Friday, March 12 we will be doing a full casino night! We are expecting more than 50 people to attend and have some fantastic raffle prizes to give away. It amazes me what we can all achieve by putting on our thinking caps and doing a little networking.

I love having a great cause to keep me motivated and knowing that I am helping my brother at the same time!

Tomorrow I will be doing a little post on MS Awareness week!

Training for more than ourselves- Bob's Army!

This year Thomas and I are training for the Bike MS ride in June. However, we are training for more than just ourselves. We are going to train and ride for Bobby! A few years ago Thomas' brother was diagnosed with primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis. It has changed the way he lives his life in ways we can't imagine.

Bob's Army was created in April of 2008. Bob walked all 3 miles of the MS walk and we were all in tears when he crossed the finish line. From then on we knew we wanted to do more than just raise a little bit of money to help fund research. We wanted to show everyone that Bob's Army would continue to grow in numbers and in strength.

Last June Thomas rode in the Bike MS: Harmons Best Dam Bike Ride while Bob and I volunteered to help those riding. It was an amazing experience to see those ride so hard for such a good cause.

So now here we are in January 2010 and Bob's Army is ready to roll again. Some of us have commitments to ride while the rest of us will volunteer. If you would like to join Bob's Army and ride, walk or donate with us, please do! Visit our team website for more information:
http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/UTUBikeEvents?team_id=178690&pg=team&fr_id=12531

40 miles on the bike for me, and 75-150 for Thomas! We have some training to do!
